This exceptional 5-day Burgundy wine tour is designed for clients who really wish to get to grips with the « beating heart » of the region. Centered on Beaune, the wine capital of Burgundy, it covers in-depth one of the most prestigious wine-producing districts in the world, the Côte d’Or.
Through the numerous tastings, meetings with wine-growers and visits to the vineyards, you will come to appreciate even more the extraordinary hard work and dedication that goes into producing these world-class wines. And of course, we will organise the shipping of your favourite wines from the vineyard to your doorstep.
The truly Burgundy wine connoisseur’s Grands Crus tour!.
OPTIONAL SIGHTSEEING & ACTIVITES
DAY 1 - BEAUNE
10.30am pick up at your hotel in Paris. Lunch. This afternoon we will begin our wine odyssey with a couple of visits to local producers in and around the city of Beaune. Time to get to grips with the system of classification and your first taste of some of the great wines to come!.
DAY 2 - COTE DE NUITS
A full day in the mecca for Burgundy lovers as we explore and taste our way through the who’s who of red wine producing villages (Gevrey-Chambertin, Clos de Vougeot, Vosne Romanée and Nuits Saint George). Today you will enjoy a spectacular wine-tasting lunch and visit to a producer of Grand Cru wines. We will also make a foray into the Hautes Côtes « the High Slopes » which are situated just above the better-known vineyards. Not so mediatised, this very scenic area harbours some rare pearls which will delight your palettes (as well as your pockets!).
DAY 3 - COTE DE BEAUNE
Although home to some great reds such as Pommard and Volnay, the Chardonnay grape variety reaches its ultimate expression on the slopes around the villages of Meursault, Chassagne and Puligny-Montrachet. This is your opportunity to taste and learn about some of the finest white wines in the world !. In the words of Voltaire, « To be drunk bare-headed and kneeling! » We will also head slightly off the beaten track to source some great buys in the nearby, yet lesser known villages such as Saint-Aubin, Monthélie and Les Maranges. After a delicious lunch, the afternoon will be dedicated to an appellation which is hardly known outside of France, Les Côteaux du Giennois which produces some very good Sauvignon Blancs, and a few reds, both at excellent prices. 5.00 pm Drop off
DAY 4 - COTE CHALONNAISE
A few miles further south-east from the Côte de Beaune lies a wine growing district which has been described as the Côte d’Or 30 years ago. In a word, some really lovely wines and affordable prices from the villages of Mercury, Rully, Givry and Montagny. You will also be enchanted by our wine-tasting lunch at a winery and where you will visit the cellars as well as the surrounding vineyards that produce the very wines you tasted at lunch.
DAY 5 - HAUTES COTES DE BEAUNE
Depart from Beaune for Paris. This morning we will check out of the hotel and head into the Hautes Côtes de Beaune or « High Slopes » to track down some hidden gems that often lie just beyond the world famous vineyards. After a tasty bite to eat in a local restaurant we will head back to Paris for a late afternoon arrival.
